Bad Beauty Habits to Give up For Lent – And For Good

We’re all guilty of picking up a handful of bad beauty habits over the years, and even though they may be tough to break, now is the perfect time to kick them to the curb.
It’s time to start caring for our complexions and embracing our natural beauty. Whether it’s for 40 days or forever, avoiding these seven dreadful decisions will change your daily routine and your appearance (we promise).
At some point, we've all over-plucked our brows to the point of sparse, unflattering arches. It's torture dealing with stubble, but it’s time to put the tweezers down! Over-plucking gradually weakens your strands, which stunts regrowth (sometimes for good) ... yikes! To achieve flawless face framing try spending less time in the magnifying mirror.
Here’s a tip: Your brows should begin directly above your tear duct, peak in line with the outer side of your iris, and end at a point that falls 45 degrees from the outer corner of your eye.
Holding onto makeup for years:
Now is the perfect time to spring clean your makeup bag. Old cosmetics can harbor bacteria, which leads to irritations, infections and can damage your skin long term. Save your complexion with our makeup shelf-life guideline.
Using dirty makeup brushes:
Speaking of bacteria, after just a few weeks of using your makeup brushes your skin's natural oil, dust and debris will start to build up. Mold (yes, mold) will actually get lodged between the fibers and fester. Cleaning your brushes from time to time keeps all that grime from getting transferred to your face. Clean up your act with our DIY drugstore solution.
Not washing your face every night:
If you’re looking to achieve a clearer complexion, washing your face every night is key. Washing your face will prevent blemishes and produces faster cell turnover leaving you with a brighter complexion. Let your skin breathe and repairs itself naturally by starting this healthy habit, tonight!
Skimping on sunscreen:
Tis-Tis! If you want to have a strong relationship with your skin start applying sunscreen daily – rain or shine! Not only will you be shielding your shell from damaging UVA/UVB rays, you’ll be warding off signs of aging. We recommend applying an SPF 15 every day. Start prepping your skin and purchase one of our favorite skin-protecting sunscreens.
Washing your hair too often:
This is a tricky regimen to change, but washing your hair daily ruins the health and color of your tresses. Preserve your hair’s natural oils and opt for dry shampoo — it can be our dirty little secret.
Standing up against this bad habit will not only make you feel better, but it will make your mother proud, too. Need a few tips? Begin with making a conscious effort to keep your back straight.. Try practicing yoga or go the old-school route with balancing a book on your head.
