For Christian Siriano, life is but a fairytale — one fashionable fairytale, that is.
The former "Project Runway" winner was enlisted to create costumes for Disney's new animated feature, "The Pirate Fairy," and to celebrate, we caught up with the designer at the film's New York City screening last week.
During our exclusive interview, Siriano dished about everything from which cartoon character he relates to most and advice for up-and-comers, to what's next on his stylish agenda.
When it came to the process of creating pieces for make-believe characters, Christian explained that one of the best parts of the job was the lack of challenges as the models "can’t talk back to you.”
Fellow fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff added her expert point-of-view, explaining how limits to creativity were endless in this particular project, because “The rules of fabric don’t apply." Adding, "It's fun because it's fantasy on every level."
As for Siriano's favorite Disney characters, he said that he relates to many of the beloved personalities. "Every Halloween, my fiancé and I are Disney characters." Two of his most memorable ensembles? His take on Tinker Bell and Babette from "Beauty and the Beast." As for next year, the 28-year-old said one of his "Pirate Fairy" pieces is not out of the running.
