They rose to fame through the ranks of reality TV, and now former "Real Housewives of New York" stars Jill Zarin and Kelly Bensimon are using their celebrity to make a name for themselves in the world of style and beauty.
We were on-hand Thursday night as the pair of Big Apple socialites hit the red carpet for BELLA Dots Specialty Kitchen Appliances Launch.
Eager to offer up details on life post Bravo fame, Jill and Kelly dished on everything from current product lines, to their go-to beauty buys and fashion must-haves.
Jill on her favorite bauble from her Lord & Taylor jewelry collection
My first piece. It was the sample I got off production - and I died. It's my logo, so it's on everything. All my jewelry is very affordable, but it looks expensive. Everything has a hanging 'z.' To me, everything looks real.
On her one fashion item she can't go without:
Of course Skweez Couture! My shapewear. I can never leave home without it, I'm wearing it right now! Other than my Skweez Couture, I never leave home without a scarf. And, I love to self tan. I use the towels and the peels.
On her must-have beauty buy:
Lip gloss! MAC lip gloss.
Kelly on what fans can expect from her upcoming iVillage reality competition "DIY Beautify":
I think it's really fun because it's the first contestant-based show on iVillage. That's super fun. But also, you know, makeup is daunting. And to watch these amazing courageous women sit and try to do makeup under the spotlight and be judged by me...you probably think, 'Oh shes gonna be mean.' But actually I was like, 'Wow that's really good.' You know, 'cause it's really hard.
On her go-to cosmetic product:
I've been modifying my makeup. Sometimes I wear darker eyes, sometimes I wear lighter eyes. I mean, I've always had a very natural look because that's just who I am. When I wear a lot of makeup I just look silly.
On current beauty items she swears by:
BB creams as of late. And I swear by mascara. As for brands: Garnier, Dior, and Too Faced. It's really just what you like.
On a makeup trick she suggests for women on-the-go
I think a lot of people are afraid of concealer, but concealer really just wipes away the fatigue and all the wrinkles. And then just mascara. And ya know, if you can just stay as hydrated as possible, that's the best thing to do.
On trends she loves for the fall season:
There are just so many fun trends his season. I think cobalt blue is one of the biggest trends. I love all the faux fur [with] camo. I mean, I really love the winter white.
