If you’re looking to perk up your color job or enrich the sheen you’re already working with, we’re here to tell you that richer, more pronounced color is no further than your kitchen cabinet!

Sure, there are plenty of 'miracle' solutions on the market with color-enhancing guarantees, but concocting your own mixture at home ensures that you’re putting a safe, natural product on your tresses rather than one with harsh chemicals and ingredients you can’t even pronounce.

So, gather round all you blondes, brunettes and redheads! We’ve got a color-intensifying DIY hair project for you to try! Follow these simple steps below and you’ll be well on your way to lovely, vibrant hair.

For Brunettes:

What you’ll need:
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- ½ cup plain yogurt
- 1-teaspoon honey
- 1-teaspoon apple-cider vinegar

How does it work? The honey moisturizes tresses while the acids in the yogurt and apple-cider vinegar penetrate the hair shaft, allowing the cocoa to seep in and enrich your brown color to a richer, deeper hue.

How to:
- Combine all ingredients together to make a paste.
- Shampoo and condition hair FIRST then rinse out thoroughly.
- Apply mask to hair.
- Keep it on for 2-3 minutes, then rinse out.
* Drape a towel around your neck as the cocoa powder may drip and cause skin to stain temporarily.

For Blondes:

What you’ll need:
- A lemon
- 1 raw potato
- ½ cup room-temperature chamomile tea.

How does it work? Both the chamomile and lemon aid as whitening agents and the acidic properties of the lemon juice help to break down the tough outer layer of the hair shaft to allow potato enzymes to penetrate through to brighten your locks.

How to:
- Squeeze juice from a lemon into a small dish.
- Grate a raw potato and blend with the lemon juice to make a paste.
- Add the ½ cup of chamomile to the mixture and stir.
- Shampoo and condition as normal. Then, massage mask into hair.
- Cover head with a PVC-free shower cap and bow dry on low for 2-3 minutes.
- Rinse and style.

For Redheads:

What you’ll need:
- 3 medium-size raw carrots
- 3 tablespoons yogurt
- 2 tablespoons honey
* ½ cup cranberries if you want copper undertones.

How does it work? Carrots and red berries take things up a notch with your color, making it seem much more luscious. The lactic acids in the yogurt penetrate through the hair shaft allowing the properties of these two foods to seep in. The honey serves as a hydrator, lending your hair a silky-smooth shine.

How to:
- Chop the carrots and place into a food processor, (Add the cranberries in if you want them) blend until it becomes a paste.
- Add in the honey and the yogurt - blend well.
- Shampoo as normal and then massage the mask throughout hair.
- Keep on for 1-2 minutes.
- Rinse and style.
