Runway Report: Balmain Offers Opulence at Paris Fashion Week

With creative director, Olivier Rousteing, at the helm, Balmain amped up the volume for fall fashion at the label’s runway RTW show yesterday (March 1) as part of Paris Fashion Week.

The stunning collection comprised of tailored military jackets, blazers, skin-tight dresses and brilliant pieces constructed from velvet.

However, the most awe-inspiring aspect of the show was the exquisite ornamentation on certain pieces – the pearl, crystal, stud, quilted and needlepoint floral embellishments truly stole the spotlight.

These specific details were derived from Rousteing’s inspiration from jeweled Fabergé eggs. One particular gem provoked his creative genius that was actually given to Elizabeth Taylor as a gift from Richard Burton. “I went to New York and saw the Christie’s exhibit, and it was so beautiful,” Rousteing said. “I loved the opulence.”
