It’s time to wake up and smell the turkey people! With Thanksgiving upon us, that means three things: yummy food, great company and Black Friday.

Dubbed as the biggest shopping day of the year, this royally HUGE retail romp is sure to be even more exciting than last year—we know, hard to believe, huh?

If you’re planning on subjecting yourself to the oddly exhilarating shopping chaos, there are a few things you need to know to ensure a safe and successful bargain-hunting excursion.

Check them out:

Do your research. Be sure to hone in on the sales you want to take advantage of before you head out on your shopping excursion. Things are chaotic on the front lines of every store, and you don’t want to be that girl walking around aimlessly in the crowds. Once you find the product(s) you want, do a little research and see which store is offering the best deal. This way, you’ll be sure to get the most bang for your holiday buck.

Make a game plan: Map out which stores you want to hit up first, and what you want to achieve from each stop. By doing this, you won’t waste any crucial shopping time.

Use apps. Shop smarter this year by utilizing apps! There are a TON of helpful ones to use that will track down the latest and greatest deals for you. Some even feature leaked ads that not many people haven't seen yet—a major advantage to you. Ones we suggest trying are: The Black Friday App, TGI Black Friday, Target, Walmart, Shopkick, The Black Friday Survival Guide, Red Laser, Snip Snap, Decide, Cardstar, and Find My Car (which will prove to be helpful in those packed parking lots).

Eat up. Be sure to load up on foods that will lend you the energy you need to keep your wits about you while rubbing elbows with the masses. We suggest protein bars, assorted fruits, veggies and water. That is, of course, if you have any room left after chowing down on Thanksgiving dinner…

Get Comfy. Leave your heels at home and wear your most comfortable kicks—you’re going to be doing a lot of walking—maybe even running. Also, wear comfortable clothing, such as yoga pants and a sweatshirt.

Bring a buddy. Two is better than one! You and your gal pal can cover more ground together, than you can apart. Or, one of you can even hold a spot in the checkout line while the other grabs the goodies! Besides, shopping with your BFF is so much more fun than shopping alone—it’s safer too.

Stay connected. Make sure your cell is FULLY charged before leaving the house. You’ll need your phone on you so that you can contact your shopping pals whenever, wherever. As we stated above, it’s also a good resource for fabulous Black Friday apps!

Wear a cross body bag. Carrying around a large tote in Black Friday spells t-r-o-u-b-l-e for many reasons. First of all, you need to save your arms for lugging around your loot and pushing carts; not for holding your purse. A large bag could attract a purse snatcher. So, to ensure your belongings stay your belongings, keep things snug at your side with a cross body bag.

Have a budget. It’s easy to get swipe happy with your credit card when you have a slew of sales staring you in the face. To be sure you don’t have a whopping bill post Black Friday, put together a budget of what you want to spend and STICK TO THAT. Stay strong, and don’t get sucked in by every sweet deal you see.

Most importantly, BE NICE! There are known to be a few Grinch-like folks in the crowd. Don’t be one of them. Put on a happy face and use your manners like your momma taught you. After all, Santa’s watching.
