Valentino travels to his hometown of Rome, Italy for Fall 2014.
Designers Maria Frazia, Chiuris and Pierpalo Piccioli captured Roman culture by displaying an array of Italian Pop Art, stating backstage “For us, it’s very normal to speak about Michelangelo."
The runway was a whiff of Sixties Mod displaying rich detailing and craftwork. The show opened with polka-dot motifs in hues of pink, black, white and red arranged in strong vertical patterns on leather jackets, edgy fitted skirts and tops with starched collars.
The ensembles then loosened featuring lighter silhouettes, from solid silk dresses with cape backs all channeling butterfly prints and sequin embroiders in deep hues. The patterns covered slim coats, knits, furs and over-sized long-sleeve dresses.
Then, gowns graced the runway, highlighting fantasy and elegance with nature imagery such as hearts, birds and stars leaving the final look breathtaking. Valentino Garavani himself was shedding tears by the end of the show, which he described as "Very [emotional], because I really found the essence of Valentino with a good new touch. It was fantastic, really fantastic.”
